Manchester City legend, David Silva believes Arsenal are the only team capable of challenging his former-side for the Premier League title this season. While winning the treble during the 2022/23 season, Manchester City also won their third league title in a row with Mikel Arteta and Arsenal now attempting to dethrone Pep Guardiola’s side off the top come May.

Arsenal finished runners-up last season, however they came so close to winning their first Premier League title in nearly 20 years after the Gunners were five points clear with eight games to go. Unfortunately due to injuries and the pressure on this young Arsenal side, they were unable to sustain their title challenge until the end. However it’s giving them more fight and determination to go one better this season and win the Premier League.

Manchester United finished third last season but have endured a mixed start, while Newcastle United secured the final Champions League place last term but have begun this campaign with three defeats from their opening four games.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have registered three wins so far and after strengthening the midfield with the signing of Declan Rice, Silva believes Arteta’s side will run City close again this season.

David Silva: “They [City] have an amazing team with some amazing players. This is Pep’s eighth season at City. The first year he was getting used to the Premier League, but now they are almost unstoppable.

“Arsenal are the only team I can see who maybe have a chance of challenging City. The rest? I don’t think they can.

“I watched nearly all of City’s games in the Champions League last season, I couldn’t win it when I was there, but I’m so happy for the club that they were finally able to do it.

“They deserve it. The club deserves it, the supporters deserve to win the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup – the Treble. It was an amazing achievement.”
