Gabriel Magalhaes made his international debut for Brazil on Friday night. Brazil won the opening game of their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign in style last night as they beat Bolivia by five goals to one. The Arsenal centre-back played the majority of the game before being substituted off in the 86th minute.

After the game, former Tottenham star, Lucas Moura sent a message to Gabriel on Instagram after the player’s top performance on his Brazil debut.

Gabriel was the only Arsenal player to start the match, with Tottenham’s Richarlison being preferred over Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli who both started on the Brazil bench.

Gabriel deserved to make his international debut after being such an integral part of Arsenal’s title challenge last season. The Brazilian featured in every single Premier League game for the Gunners during the 2022/23 campaign, which shows just how important he is to Mikel Arteta.

Previously there was tension between the player and former Brazil management as Gabriel had been dropped after choosing to prioritise the birth of his child. Thankfully the new coach of Brazil has more sense and seen the quality the Arsenal man has, unlike before.

Lucas Moura was impressed with the Arsenal man’s display on his debut. The former Tottenham man wrote on Gabriel Instagram post: “Very played brother.”

Lucas Moura left Spurs over the summer to return to his home nation of Brazil and was clearly impressed with his compatriot’s international debut after commenting on his instagram after the game.

He wasn’t the only player with the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Eddie Nketiah and others also sending their congratulations to the Arsenal man.
