Kalvin Phillips shuts down transfer rumours to West Ham

Kalvin Phillips has been rumoured and speculated with a move to West Ham as his national teammate Declan Rice is set to move away from the Hammers.

West Ham United have a huge task in hand as they look to find a complete package, if not better than Rice atleast someone who can take his place. Kalvin Phillips for sure is one guy to do so.

The 27-year-old only made 4 appearances this season and was nowhere near Guardiola’s first choice in playing eleven and a lack of game time garnered interest from Premier League clubs. Talking about a move to London, Phillips did not hesitate in saying no.

“My intention is to stay,” Phillips told BBC journalist Mike Minnay. “We’ve just won the Treble, so there is no reason for me to leave. I cannot give it 12 months and say I am not playing, so I am going to leave.”

“With many players at City, it can take quite a while to cement yourself into the team. I’m just going to go away for the off-season, enjoy myself, and then come back fighting.

“Just know how difficult it is to understand the way Pep wants to play and how quickly you need to adapt to play in his system. I am on the brink of almost getting it.”

“Obviously, there is a little bit of work in pre-season, and hopefully be alright.”

Even Jack Grealish was not a sure-shot performer last season for the Champions and look where is he now. The example of Jack surely works as a motivator for Phillips who would want to prove his mettle to the champion coach. His start may not be confirmed in the next season as well but with many players vying an exit, Kalvin Phillips can hope to have increased game time for sure.
