Arsenal lifted the Goodison Park curse by beating Everton last weekend for the first time since 2017. It was a very hard and physically exhausting battle but in the end the Gunners left Merseyside with all three points, thanks to a wonderful strike by Leandro Trossard in the second-half.

Although he didn’t start the match, Trossard got his chance very early on in the game when Gabriel Martinelli was substituted on the 24th minute with what appeared to be a hamstring injury. The Belgian grew into the match the longer it went on, and ended up being the match winner after a superb short corner routine by Arsenal.

In the 69th minute, Trossard found himself in space on the edge of the box after a pass from Bukayo Saka, and directed a shot into the top corner on his weaker foot. It was the Belgian’s second goal in the Premier League for the Gunners since his arrival in January earlier this year, with the first one being at home against Brentford last season.

After the game, Trossard explained the tactics behind the goal and how good he is with both fee: “I’ve been practicing on my left, on both feet and you can see it helps you in the game as an attacker. It’s always nice to help your team. It’s so helpful if you are good on both feet, you can go either way. It’s nice.”

On the corner routine, Trossard said: “Obviously, a lot of tall guys, we know they are good in air and set pieces. We wanted to exploit them (corners with short routine). We work hard on everything, tactically. Arteta does so well with the team, team picks it up so well.”

The Belgian was full of praise for Mikel Arteta after the game and even credited the Arsenal boss with the win after his short corner routine paid off to get the Gunners their fourth win of the season.
