Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton have been unable to fight Red Bull for victories in 2023.
Toto Wolff is set to grant Lewis Hamilton’s wish of pushing for success in 2024 ahead of short-term, one-off victories this year. The Mercedes boss has confirmed that ‘the sails have been set’ with regard to the development path that the W15 will take ahead of the season opener in Bahrain next March.
The Brackley-based team are the most relcent team to take a race victory away from Red Bull with George Russell taking his maiden Grand Prix triumph at last season’s Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
However, while Mercedes do sit second in the Constructors’ Championship, no team has beaten Red Bull on a Sunday in 2023. Such is the extent of the dominance shown by their rivals, and the reigning world champion, Max Verstappen, the Dutchman’s 314-point tally is big enough to give him a comfortable lead over Mercedes’ combined total.
