According to a report, Michael Oher had the option to end his contentious conservatorship with the Tuohy family 12 years ago, before suing them for a “phony adoption.” Michael Oher reportedly had the option to terminate his conservatorship with the Tuohy family at any time after turning 25.
The former NFL great recently submitted a petition in his home state of Tennessee to end the conservatorship that was created by the affluent Tuohy family in 2004, when he was an 18-year-old left tackle who had received a lot of interest. The agreement, which was at first perceived as an adoption in the public eye, later served as the subject of the well-known book and movie The Blind Side.
Oher, 37, is now arguing that the conservatorship prevented him from receiving film royalties while allowing Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy to profit from his story. However, he had a chance to end the conservatorship a decade earlier.
He still wishes for the petitioners to be acknowledged as his legal guardians, at least until the age of 25, or until their appointment is cancelled earlier by a court decision. He continues to be dependent on them and needs their help and direction. He requests their appointment as his conservators for all reasons now that he is 18 years old.
